Pick the coating system first
Thermal barrier coatings combine an MCrAlY bond coat with a YSZ top coat; wear coatings use WC-Co below about 500 °C and CrC-NiCr at higher temperature; corrosion coatings use IN625 or C276-type alloys.
Thermal spray coatings
Powders for thermal barrier, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant coatings sprayed by atmospheric plasma (APS), vacuum or low-pressure plasma (VPS), and high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF). Metallic powders are gas atomized; carbide and ceramic powders are supplied in spray-grade cuts.
| Powder | Spray process | Coating function | Typical uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| MCrAlY (NiCrAlY, CoNiCrAlY) | APS / VPS / HVOF | Thermal barrier bond coat, high-temperature oxidation resistance | Aero and industrial gas-turbine blades, vanes, and combustor parts |
| ZrO₂-Y₂O₃ (YSZ) | APS | Thermal barrier top coat, low thermal conductivity | Combustor liners, transition pieces, turbine hot-section parts |
| WC-Co | APS / HVOF | Wear and erosion resistance | Pump sleeves, valve balls, landing gear, rolls, and wear parts |
| CrC-NiCr | APS / HVOF | High-temperature wear and erosion resistance | Hot sliding wear parts, boiler tubes, seal surfaces |
| IN625 and IN718 | APS / VPS / HVOF | High-temperature and corrosion resistance | Aerospace, chemical, and marine components, dimensional restoration |
| C276-type nickel alloy | APS / VPS / HVOF | Corrosion protection, transition layer | Boiler and chemical-plant corrosion protection |
Coating properties depend on spray process, gun parameters, substrate preparation, and coating thickness. Request the powder datasheet for the exact chemistry, morphology, and flow data of the quoted lot.

HVOF and VPS usually run 15–45 µm; APS bond and top coats usually run 45–90 µm or coarser. State the gun model and feeder.
Spherical gas-atomized metallic powder flows consistently; for carbides, state whether you need agglomerated-sintered or another manufacturing route.
State bond strength, porosity, hardness, oxide content, and thickness targets so the powder lot can be checked against the coating requirement.

Samples and trial bags can be quoted with production pricing. Lot COA, particle-size report, and SDS are supplied with each quoted lot.
HVOF typically uses fine cuts around 15–45 µm so particles heat and accelerate uniformly. APS commonly uses coarser cuts such as 45–90 µm, especially for ceramic top coats.
MCrAlY (M = Ni, Co or both) is applied as a bond coat under a YSZ thermal barrier top coat, or as a stand-alone oxidation-resistant coating, on gas-turbine hot-section parts.
